Health & Safety
"All companies within Ibstock PLC, like any successful business, must be conscious of the impacts its operations have on the environment and the communities in which it operates. We recognise our responsibilities as a manufacturer to reduce the environmental impact of our activities. We continue to invest in energy efficiency, CO2 reduction, generation of electricity from landfill gas and the recycling of our raw materials such as process water to minimise both waste and cost, ultimately helping us to achieve our goal of reducing waste to landfill.
Ibstock businesses are proud of their long history of being part of the local communities in which they operate. This involvement ranges from financial support for community projects to stakeholder engagements relating to quarry extensions and this report details many examples of those. To encourage this across the business we have become a member of the “Business in the Community” organisation."
Here at Supreme Concrete we believe in "the 12 fundamentals" – the main points on which our health and safety policies are built. It is aimed at promoting a culture of safety awareness amongst our employees and highlights how best practice can keep our staff safe.
We often hold health and wellbeing events across our sites, which include free and confidential health check-ups as well as advice on nutrition and fitness and form part of the health and wellbeing programme currently running across Ibstock PLC.
The 12 fundamentals were adopted several years ago to minimise the risks in undertaking hazardous activities where both employees and contractors have historically been injured, and these are:
- Risk assessment
- Mobile plant and pedestrian safety
- Isolation of operating machinery
- Machine guarding
- Confined spaces
- Working from height
- Lifting operations
- Manual handling
- Pressure vessels
